it is tuesday morning. it has been four days since i graduated. i practically did everything i could do during these four days. and i am bored. so i am reading brothers karamazov?? not exactly. what awaits me is the three day trip to the beach. so i thought i should do something worthwhile. worthwhile = karamazov ? ... it is hard to live without a job.
I just had to write down a few things cuz this was such a strange book, and my memories always bad.
My English teacher (though he never taught me) told me he read this book three times and still didn't get it. I was like wtf, too, as I just finished reading it. So I turned to the back of the page to see what it really was supposed to be praised for. "A funny" or "anti-war" book, they say. But I still don't get it. I get it that it's an anit-war book, but why in the world is this supposed to be funny?
Ok, Vonnegut seemed to try. But I still don't get it. First of all, if this really is a science fiction as everyone in the web talks about, then, it really doesn't make any sense. If Billy actually were insane, I would have laughed at least a bit. This means that his chaotic story is due to a psychological impact from the war, and he became a tragic clown, blabbing about aliens from far, far away. Sad, but funny what a political war could do to an unmindful individual. But whatever.
I don't think I'll be reading this three more times, maybe in the far future, maybe, if I feel bored. I'll just be reading Brother Karamazov for now. It was mentioned in the book, and I have a copy, so I might as well as just read it.
I'm a senior. I have about a month until graduation. Except for APs, what else have I got to do?
APs.
I need a break from these test-famished vampires..
I always hated them dots on my faces. But it just came to me all of a sudden, that it looked like a Big Dipper. How cool can that be. So I decided to just live with it.
Somehow, this blog seems to have become a reading log, though started as a homework blog. That's better in a million ways, anyways. The books are for my school work, though; that's why I'm in such a hurry finishing these, but at least it's something I wanted to do for so long (when you can't sleep because of MSN, this helps..). It doesn't mean I'm reading without much thought. Animal Farm is one of the books I thought was so clever. Before, I didn't notice, but realizing that Stalin and Trotsky has so much to do with this book just leaves one in awe after finishing the book. George Orwell's books are really awesome. If you do get the chance, read 1984, too.
[btw did you know Animal Farm was a fairy-story? The book's not trying to teach you. It makes you feel the truth. It makes you want to rebel, but not really. "Life is like that," the guy who wrote the intro. says. It is sad but true. Socialism sounds Utopian but is impossible, says history.]
Just like any moment of my life, everything happens to relate to everything I've got to do. I've just read Animal Farm and am going to start reading Slaughterhouse-Five. Yesterday, I've watched the movie, "Pearl Harbor" and "Iron Man." Today, I've commemorated the dead Korean navies who were hit by a North Korean submarine (so far rumors). War. Death. Innocent death.. I dreamed of becoming a missionary doctor. Now, I am to sacrifice my life in the front lines, side by side with the foot soldiers.
I read this book initially for my hw project due two weeks later. What I found out recently is that this book is for sophomores, so she won't listen to it anyways. I have 20 more pages to go.. Should I finish this... ah, ddong.
Seriously, One Piece should be on the 'great books' lists...
